This quiz is the fourth in a series explaining how to read hangeul, the standard Korean writing system.
If you've taken the first three quizzes, you should already know that in hangeul, the letter ㅏ is pronounced "ah" while the letter ㅑ , which looks about the same but has one more stroke, is pronounced "yah." You should also remember that these letters can either follow consonant symbols like the "n" letter ㄴ , or they can follow the silent placeholder symbol ㅇ , so 나 is read "nah" and 냐 is read "nyah," but 아 is pronounced "ah," without a consonant, and 야 is "yah."
Hopefully, you also recall that the hangeul letter ㅗ , pronounced "oh," goes under consonant symbols or placeholders, so 노 is read "no" and 오 is pronounced simply "oh."
This quiz covers the letter ㅛ , which is pronounced like the "yo" in "YOLO" and which, like ㅗ , shows up under consonant letters (e.g. 뇨 = "nyo") or under the placeholder ㅇ (i.e. 요 = "yo").
Every word in hangeul that appears in this quiz contains the letter ㅛ . Any hangeul letters you see below other than ㅛ , ㅗ, and ㅏ or the placeholder ㅇ represent consonants, which will be covered in later quizzes.
Your job in this quiz is to guess the English counterparts of the Korean words listed. Clues have been provided to help you along. Most of the answers sound very similar in both languages.
As you take this quiz, pay close attention to how the hangeul examples compare to the corresponding English answers, and if everything goes according to plan, by the end you should have ㅛ = "yo" memorized for good.
