^ this was my understanding. Similar to Delhi/New Delhi or Colombo/Sri Kotte Cheese, just on a much smaller scale. In my opinion Melekeok should be accepted.
There's a YouTube video posted by a traveler who visited Ngerulmud that confirms what jyp said. The capital appears to be a quad with an administrative building on each side. Looks about the size of a football field. Very interesting to see.
While in most cases the capitol building being in Ngerulmud would designate it as the national capital, Palau is unique. The previous capitol building was in the state of Koror until 2006, however, it was moved to Melekeok. Since no official government declaration has been released about what the official capital of Palau is, Melekeok is a more consistent answer with Palau's history, as the previous capital was recognized as the state of Koror, even though the capitol building itself was in Koror City.
Maybe it should be noted that Nauru is capital-less? Yaren is just the district that usually gets mentioned. (I hope my confused English comes through somehow!)
High levels...don't mean much. Oceania is so obscure that people, such as Kal, just see no reason to memorize all those meaningless places. These countries serve no purpose to the wide world, and, sadly, will soon be covered in water. Level 66 can be obtained without, dare I say it, knowing a single capital. There are maybe ten capital quizzes worth points, those can easily be avoided. But, at level 43, I just don't think you understand. Anyway, did you get all of them?
cosmokin ...... In my opinion your comment is just about as low as a comment could be. Oceania is not obscure to the world, just to you with your bigoted ideas. The capitals mentioned may be 'Meaningless' to you, but that is because you are obviously quite ignorant.
Comoskim - the population of Oceania is 38 Million, about the same amount as California. How meaningless would it be if California dropped into the sea as the result of an earthquake on the San Andreas fault? I'm disgusted by your comment.
Totally disagree with cosmokim's comments re Oceania. As a proud Kiwi, I don't consider myself nor people from the Pacific obscure at all. There is an amazing breadth of diversity, culture, food, and scenery to experience. Why don't you give yourself a treat, visit any part of Oceania, and broaden your perspective?
Careful pointing at population figures or the next time someone tries to claim that knowing the capital of of Iceland is more important than knowing the capital of Texas you're going to have a hard time backing it up.
Also, take away Australia, New Zealand, and New Guinea and you're left with only 2 million people spread out over 11 countries. And, unfortunately, it's true- many of them will be gone soon.
That said, it's high time this quiz got featured. Even if the information in it is trivial in the extreme and most people are going to have to learn something to get them all right. That's what the site is here for, right?
cosmokim Oceania is not obscure. In fact, I find it to be fascinating, how government and culture can still be established and held up despite the countries being so small and isolated! Oceanian countries have some of the largest lingual and cultural diversity of any countries! Bigger doesn't necessarily equal better!
Do you people not understand what the word obscure means? These countries are so little-known and seldom referenced most people don't even know that they exist (Australia and New Zealand obviously excluded), much less what their capital cities are. I managed to ace this quiz 3 years ago with a lot of practice but now, years later, after never having any use for this information in the intervening years, I'm back to missing half of them again.
I enjoyed doing this quiz. I know very little about oceania but have just about learned the capitals through this. I think a previous users comment that these countries are meaningless is quite insulting and should be removed.
Where is New Caledonia on the map?
I know, they´re part of France and not a souvereign country, so they don´t really fit in this quiz as a question.
But they should at least appear on the map just like Indonesia & others..
Finally got them all, after a couple weeks trying to practice, with 2:08 remaining at 1:28:14 PM on March 16, 2019. I took the quiz about a minute before this try and I knew all of them except Micronesia, which I had forgotten as I tried the World Capitals Quiz a few minutes earlier, but I forgot to log off before pressing Give Up, so now my answer stats are ruined. Darn it. At least I now have 1032 points.
