I like the quiz topic, but it would be great to update based on the 2021 census figures and a source with more sensible/consistent definitions of what counts as a "city".
I realise there are multiple ways to define a "city" and all are somewhat arbitrary, but counting towns that are within the same local government area (LGA) and within 10km of each other, namely Katoomba and Wentworth Falls (City of Blue Mountains), Nowra and Bomaderry (City of Shoalhaven), and Richmond and Windsor (City of Hawkesbury), while other areas such as the Central Coast get counted as a single city is bizarre.
Using https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_places_in_New_South_Wales_by_population as the source and the 2021 census data, the only changes to the "cities" making it into this quiz would be:
Not included because they are counted as part of a larger city:
- Richmond (part of Sydney)
- Windsor (part of Sydney)
- Nowra (part of Nowra - Bomaderry)
- Bomaderry (part of Nowra - Bomaderry)
- Katoomba (part of Blue Mountains)
- Wentworth Falls (part of Blue Mountains).
Would be included, as was in the top 25 in both 2001 and 2021:
- Blue Mountains (replacing Katoomba & Wentworth Falls)
- Nowra - Bomaderry (replacing the individual entries)
- Cessnock
- Forster - Tuncurry.
Now included as within top 25 in 2021 but was not in 2001:
- Bowral - Mittagong
- Nelson Bay
- Kurri Kurri.
Not included because no longer ranks in the top 25 in 2021 but did back in 2001:
- Broken Hill.
Would have been included based on 2001 data, but no longer in top 25 in 2021:
