K2 is in Gilgit-Baltistan or FANA(Federally Administered Northern Areas) which technically belongs to Pakistan. It has no relation with the Kashmir issue. FANA is not part of Kashmir.
The entire region of Kashmir was ceded to India, so 'technically' it's not a part of Pakistan. Going by the same logic, Ladakh should also not be a part of Kashmir so why does Pakistan claim all of it as well?
@918Winchan Pakistan does not claim Kashmir as its own. Pakistan's stance is that Kashmir is currently a free state (which is why it is not a province of Pakistan) and until the plebiscite is conducted, it belongs to no one but the Kashmiris. If and only if the Kashmiris allow anyone to enter, it will happen.
Well, that's new. The Pakistan I know is the one where everyone says 'Kashmir banega Pakistan' (Kashmir will become Pakistan, for non Urdu and Hindi speakers) and I somehow really doubt what you said here is even remotely close to what an average Pakistani thinks of the situation.
Independent Kashmir is a pipe dream. If magically India and China give up their claims can a sane person really expect Pakistan to allow Kashmiris their freedom? Looking at Pakistan's human rights record, probably not.
@918Winchan We say "Kashmir banega Pakistan" because we are confident that if a plebiscite were to be conducted, which is what should happen according to the UN's decision, the Kashmiris would vote for annexation with Pakistan. However, if they were to vote to be independent (which I highly doubt would happen considering they are surrounded by 3 nuclear armed nations), they will surely be left alone, but as I mentioned, it is highly unlikely.
Note the Vocabulary used - "Annexation with Pakistan" .
Kashmiris - whether they Might be Hindus ,Muslims or Sikhs , want to remain as a part of India and India only. The rest is terror campaigns funded by Pakistan to disturb the Peace in India.
@Eigengrau Kashmiris want their own state which INCLUDES Gilgit-Baltistan. I am sure they would want to choose to be with Pakistan, which claims Kashmiri lands as its own and has also riddled both "Azad" Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan with Pakistani Punjabis with the intention to virtually destroy Kashmiri culture.
I like how you say they would vote for "annexation" by Pakistan, as if you yourself don't want to give them the option for a free state lol.
@geoquiz123 Like I said to your other account above(or maybe its not idk) Kashmiris are not very fond of either Pakistanis or Indians. The radical islamists who want to be a part of Pakistan don't speak for all Kashmiris. You're delusional.
K2 is part of gilgit baltistan province of pakistan, which is not a part of kashmir. And i have been to the base camp, u can only access it from pakistan. And kashmir is not an indian territory, it is recognized by un as a disputed territory!
Well @furqanahmad then what do you think of the Kashmiris who say that Gilgit-Baltistan is a part of Kashmir? Not only India claims it, Kashmiris claim it too.
Should've gotten Urdu & Benazir Bhutto (just couldn't pull her name), but pleased to have gotten the goat. Remembered that buzkashi is the national sport in neighboring Afghanistan, so took a shot with "goat".
It has been a while since I scored so low. Extremely surprised how low the percentage for jasmine was though !! Even I got that! (and not necessarily because I knew, but it was the obvious choice, besides perhaps lotus. I wouldn't be snowdrop or edelweiss or something like that.
Despite being the lingua-franca, Urdu is spoken by only 8% of Pakistanis as a first language. Thus, there are only about 16 M native Urdu speakers in Pakistan while India has 60 M. Interesting!
Yes, but not being spoken as a first language does not mean they cannot speak it. I would argue that in actuality, more people speak Urdu in Pakistan than India, however not as the first language.
I got "goat" on my way to typing in "goat carcass polo" for the national sport, but on reflection I think that's actually popular in Afghanistan or Kyrgyzstan.
I forgot English was a national language and guessed Urdu, Punjabi, Farsi, Pashto and Arabic before giving up. Coincidentally, Pashto and Punjabi are answers as well, so make what you will of that.
I purposely removed the type-in "Jinna" because on every other JetPunk quiz, it is "Jinna". I wanted people to learn that there is an "h" in the end. Good to see my plan working...
I had no idea English was an official language in Pakistan. Also very interesting to see that neither official language is one of the two most widely known languages.
Although English may not be that well known (only in cities and relatively richer areas), Urdu is spoken all over the country, albeit not as a first language. The point is that there are actually more Urdu speakers than any other regional language, but only if you count it as a second language.

Good quiz!
