The Nigerian government will not allow McDonald's unless the company agrees to source ingredients from within Nigeria. Since the company doesn't work that way, so far no McDonald's in Nigeria.

"Since the company doesn't work that way". In fact it does. French McDonalds mainly uses French ingredients, especially the main ones (beef, chicken, potatoes, lettuce, buns, eggs).

Level 71

I don't know about Nigeria, but that's definitely an issue for Bangladesh. McDonald's has pretty strict standards. It's not necessarily that they don't want to source local ingredients, but rather that it's an issue managing that. For example, they want to be able to trace where exactly ingredients came from and how they are delivered to ensure they are in good shape--something that is difficult in Bangladesh due to the lack of cold storage. Also, high real estate costs would make it difficult to set up in the first place. If anyone's interested where I got that info from, it's here.

That being said, if McDonald's does open in Bangladesh one day, I'm sure it would be very popular. Many fast food chains have established themselves in the country with success, and some of my cousins are crazy for it. If there was a McDonald's, they'd be ecstatic!

It's growing fast, but it's been populous for quite some time. It's a surprisingly fertile land, probably the most favorable place for civilization in central Asia. That's why it was so important on the northern silk road (Samarkhand and Bukhara). Tashkent is a large city too. The downside is that they need all the water of the region, which destroyed the Aral sea...

In May 2022, McDonald's sold its business in Russia to one of its local franchisees. Today, former McDonald's restaurants are being operated by this franchisee, and the name of this Russian network is 'Vkusno i tochka' ('Tasty and that's it' in English) which has much the same menu as McDonald's. But McDonald's remained the opportunity to return on the Russian market since it has an option to buy its restaurants back within 15 years

Virtually every McDonald's I've ever visited overseas has always been SO much busier and more popular than any McDonald's you would visit in the United States. And it's definitely NOT just tourists going to them - I'm talking about locations in rural parts of France and Italy, small towns in Saudi Arabia, and barrios of the Philippines with 0 foreigners (other than me) in them... and this is in spite of the fact that in the USA McDonald's is very cheap and convenient; overseas it's often one of the more expensive options and they frequently don't have a drive-thru like the US locations always do. Everybody loves McDonald's. Non-Americans most of all.

Trademark infringing copycats? There are officially 0 McDonald's locations in Russia at this point. But I've seen bootleg knock-off version of American businesses like McDonald's, Burger King, Starbucks, etc. in many different places around the world. Some more obviously fake than others. In Russia, since they previously had hundreds of real McDonald's locations that just closed, it would be pretty easy for them to open them up again without authorization and the Russian government probably is not going to do anything about copyright infringement, either.
