Luke, great idea for a quiz. But it doesn't work. I started off trying to include Britain... I tried every variation but it wouldn't let me enter any of them. And now I see it's not included in the quiz. Ideally, you should include the British Isle countries seperately... after all, they were the 1st countries incorporated into the empire. Scotland for instance is as much apart of the empire as Kenya was.

That's because, the 4 countries that make up the UK or all come under the UK and the countries in the quiz were a part of the UK's empire. I'd have thought it fairly obvious that the UK was a member of its own Empire, therefore it is not included. I'm guessing you're from Scotland? Scotland may be getting a referendum on its independence but currently(and probably always will be), Scotland is a part of the UK.

Excellent quiz. But one small quibble. All of the countries listed are sovereign territory now, except Anguilla. It is an overseas territory of the UK. So not sure if it should be removed or if the other UK territories (Caymans, Falklands, BIOT, etc.) should be added.

hm.. interesting quiz. I had never heard of the Philippines being part of the British Empire before. I looked it up and turns out the British occupied Manila (and Cavite) for 2 years. Is that why they make the quiz? The Spanish provincial authorities still controlled the entire rest of the country. Doesn't seem like that should count. If it did, then China and France should also be on this quiz as parts of them were under English occupation for a time as well. Or Spain, as the UK took control of Gibraltar which is/was part of Spain. Or Argentina, since they took the Falklands. And so on..

Britain also occupied Havana, Cuba. If they would put the Philippines on this quiz then they should add Cuba as well.

And the British also controlled the Miskito coast of Nicaragua. They should add Nicaragua on this quiz too.

Both the Philippines and Georgia are on this list for a short military occupation of a city. Given that criteria I would expect China on the list as well as Germany (for WWII), Russia and other Soviet States (Archangel, Baku and Tashkent Red-White Civil War). British troops were also in Iran (Persia) from the end of WWI to the 1950s. In addition to Palestine (which I would keep in the quiz), I would also include Jordan, a client state similar to Egypt and Iraq. Its an interesting idea, made me think, but the definition as to what makes it part of British Empire needs to be cleaned up.

Anguilla and Palestine away and this would be great quiz. I would also add either UK or England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

I think the UK should be on here. They are definitely British.

This is a great idea for a quiz and I enjoyed. If I were you I wouldn't include non-self governing territories like Palestine and would also skip anything the British didn't actually administer, like the Philippines. After all, if you include every country they ever got off a boat at and staked a short term military claim somewhere in it then you would essentially be making a world country quiz.

Anguilla is not an independent nation. If you include it, than you should also include Jersey, Guernsey, Gibraltar, etc. which then opens up the list to territories of other nations that were previously part of the British empire. And I've never seen evidence that the Brits claimed the Philippines.

Also, where are UAE, Bahrain and Yemen? All were held by the Brits as protectorates for decades. And the Mosquito Coast of modern Nicaragua and Honduras was held officially as a protectorate for 60 years in the 19th century, but unofficially back to the mid-17th.

Additionally, Britain claimed France for centuries and held parts of it for various times and post WWII, Britain controlled parts of Germany and Austria.

Jordan was a British mandate occupied since the WWI. It should be included in the list. You must also add South Sudan, as it was a part of Anglo-Egyptian Sudan. Present-day Eritrea was occupied by British after they defeated Italians in WWII, at battle of Keren.
