Sean, I don't think the elder guardian should be included as a boss mob, because it is relatively easy to kill even with just golden armor. Sure, it does inflict Mining Fatigue 3, but other than that, I think it's like a mini-boss.
Accept pigman or zombiepig for zombie pigman please. Also, spider jockey, chicken jockey? I really don't think they should be included. IIRC, at least as of 1.9, all mobs can be ridden by all other mobs. Only those two spawn, fair enough, but anyway, they aren't really combined; they are just two mobs taped together, and if you kill one the other remains. Also wonder about mule being lumped with horse, cat lumped with ocelot and baby zombie being lumped with zombie... and why provide "golem"?
Cave spider and spider are two different answers because they have two different spawn eggs. The babies aren’t included because they have the same spawn egg as their adult versions.
Elder Guardians are "technically" hostile mobs, yet they behave just like a boss, with the exception of a boss bar. According to the Minecraft Wiki, "they will not respawn after their initial spawn", and "they do not have a spawn egg". They have a whopping 80 health points (40 hearts). Although they aren't technically a boss, they behave like one. You quiz was perfectly fine, but I've always considered Elder Guardians a boss. Just something to think about! :D
This needs updating. This is back to 2016! It is July 13, 2017!. I got mixed up with all the new mobs, that I ran out of time the first time! Please update this.
Well actually people make really good money off of geography etc. quizzes. It can be very useful in life and can also just be a parlor trick. I've literally made good friends just because we both loved geography and new a lot of little trivia tidbits. And also, stop just hating on a thing people can just do for fun. It's like video games, yes they can be very useful in life in many cases, but also they're really fun so stop hating on them.
Computer design will greatly help me if I choose to follow it as a career. Also, quizzes on science and medical knowledge has actually helped me study for classes.
I think knowing history is quite important. It is very relevant to modern-day politics and helps with contextualization and basic historical development.
You're right, except these quizzes aren't all meant to be useful, they're mostly meant for fun. But I truly am glad that this site helped you and sort of annoyed that you think it's ONLY to help you.
You're forgetting Vex, Vindicator and Wither Skeleton. The One under Boss is The Wither. Illusioner and Killer Bunny's shouldn't be including since they're spawned by commands not naturally.
It goes by version, I'm guessing when the quiz had last been updated at the time of your post the vex was not an official mob or it's version wasn't included in the version the quiz encircled.
This should not be included as a requisite for the video games badge IMO. Several other quizzes on the site that would make more sense and contain more general video game knowledge. This is extremely niche and specialized information.
Considering how popular and innovative the game has become, I really don't see a reason why this quiz is not appropriate for the time being. Minecraft is, like said before, the most popular game on the planet for now, has been extremely popular for over a decade. I know you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but the purpose of the quiz site is to learn new topics, as well as test topics you were previously familiar with. Personally, I am honored that one of my quizzes is on a badge.
If you really are adamant (or care nothing about the game) that this quiz should not be on the badge, then you can do what you want. Heck, you can even get a wiki to give you the answers. However, the purpose of quizzing sites is to learn something.
I didn't say anything was wrong with the quiz. It's just wrong that it's required to get a certain score for the video games badge. I know lots of people whose whole lives revolve around video games. I don't know a single person who has ever played or knows anything about Minecraft. It might be a high-selling game, but it has not had a big impact on popular culture. And learning new topics is fine. Like... if this was ONE question on a quiz... what's the best selling game of all time (is that even true? Seems odd but okay), and the answer was Minecraft... that would certainly be a legitimate question. But forcing people to memorize 40 of these things would sort of be like.... I dunno... maybe requiring that people name at least 40 of the 60 or so Magic: The Gathering expansions in order to get a "Gaming Badge."
I could do that. Easily. And Magic has been around for 26 years, and sold tens of billions of cards. There have been numerous video games, books, and a TV series
However, I would never expect anyone who hasn't played the game, even avid gamers and super dorks, to be able to name more than 1 or 2 names of specific Magic sets, even if they were aware of the game and some of its basic mechanics and concepts. That's just really arcane and specific knowledge that nobody who hasn't played the game would know. And the number of super nerds out there who have not played Magic outnumber those who have, in spite of the fact that Magic is incredibly popular and has had amazing longevity.
My comment was not rude. It was a neutral observation. There's nothing wrong with the quiz.
That wasn't rude. What would be rude would be to say that no quizzes that are just a list are good because they don't require any imagination to be made (and I personnally will never give more than 3 stars to a mere list).
I've played Minecraft a fair share of times over the years. If I'm being honest, it's probably the most boring game I've ever played. And somehow it's also the most popular. I've never understood that.
I don't think that comment was rude, regardless if you agree with it or not.
I myself have never played it, nor do I know anybody that does, it is not the kind of game that people I consider gamers would play, but that is more a matter of different times, ages, etc. Gamers nowadays are a different group than 20 years ago. (I think apps becoming available has played a big part there, introducing people that normally would never had played any kind of game to games. Playing videogames or atleast game apps is so much more mainstream now)
But I am getting off track. First part was "agreeing" that I don't know people that play it either, I think it is more a game for the new generation gamers, under 30ish.
Second part would be disagreeing. Impact on popular culture, seriously when thousands of people go dress as something from minecraft for halloween, surely it has made an impact. I think in 1 year more people dressed up as minecraft than people in the past 25 years have as mario.
IAB: I went to the Wikipedia page you linked to. According to the website, the entire lifelong cultural impact of Minecraft has been selling a lot of video games, some YouTube channels about Minecraft (that I'm sure nobody watches who doesn't play Minecraft, so, same thing), a handful of references to the game in other video games, one South Park episode, and one Simpsons episode.
And that's it. Compare this to... for example... Mario. Who has had 6 TV shows not counting anime. 2 Hollywood movies. A breakfast cereal. A theme park ride. More than two HUNDRED different games spawned directly by the franchise. Thousands of different references and cameos in other games and media. Billions of dollars in merchandising sold in the form of toys, t-shirts, bed spreads, underpants, lunch boxes, etc etc. A float in the Macy's Day parade. Live symphonic concerts. Multiple music albums. And I could go on. *that* is having a cultural impact.
Just to make extra clear what I'm saying: there's nothing at all wrong with this quiz. I'm happy it got featured and showed up on the front page, even though I did badly on it. That's perfectly fine. Not every quiz has to be accessible. I just question it's inclusion in the conditions to get the video games badge. There are other quizzes on the site that I think would make more sense for that.
And as evidence compare the number of people who currently have the video game badge (235), to ANY other badge. The lowest of which (cities badge) has been obtained by over 1500 people, and the average seems to be about 3000-5000. I'm sure that this quiz is the reason for the difference. and maybe the Pokemon one. but more this one. This quiz has been taken 16,000 times, the Pokemon one has been taken almost 400k times.
It's still the least acquired badge on the site not counting the brand new Country Trivia badge. More people have the Italy badge. There are more gamers on JetPunk than there are Italians.
i play lots of video games but never this one, kind of lame you need to know a bunch of intimate details of one particular game to get this badge. how about we add a quiz about the details of stellaris, europa universalis, or portal runner too.
I think you mean Super Smash Brothers, not SMB. Super Smash Brothers characters include popular and well-known characters from many different video game series. Including it is fair.
I've never played Pokemon in my life, but I can still name lots of individual Pokemon. Pokemon was a cultural phenomenon. There are Pokemon cartoons, Pokemon movies, Pokemon plush toys, balloons, clothing lines, backpacks, trading card games, LOTS of different video games.. they're everywhere. And they show up in other games that aren't even Pokemon games... like.. Super Smash Brothers for instance.
I don't play Pokemon. I don't even particularly like Pokemon. I think they're pretty dumb. But very fair to include questions about specific ones on a general knowledge quiz about video games. I mean... pretty much everyone knows Pikachu. Is there a single famous character or "mob", whatever the heck that is, from Minecraft?
All that said the cutoff of 50 Pokemon for the badge might be a little high, even though personally I was able to clear it... I'd say the average person can probably name 1. The average younger person maybe 10. The average gamer who is not a Pokemon fan could probably name 15-25 or so.
Honestly, this is about age and preference for the badge. I, obviously, casually play Minecraft. Most individuals around the age of 8-20 play Minecraft as well. While the SSB fanbase has aged as of recent, and most kids (including 15 year-old me) do not play Pokemon, I think that the badge is an excellent blend of video games, whether it be a combined quiz, aging fanbases, or fanbases that are youthful. And while the 40 question benchmark may seem quite high, one can name approximately 30 mobs by just naming real life animals, such as "cow" and "salmon." Perhaps a person of my age could propose a similar argument for the Pokemon quiz, as you stated. ~85% of people have no interest in anime or Pokemon, and would find it equally difficult, if nor harder to name all of the Pokemon. As a matter of fact, I can only reach 10 before collapsing on that quiz. So, really, it is up to QM and what he decides, but I can see the case for and against this quiz being required for the badge.
Fair enough. I stand by my opinion, but I could be wrong. And though I'm older than the Pokemon generation, most of the women I date are nearer the range you gave for Minecraft, but none of them were in to Minecraft, either. and I think everything I said about familiarity with gaming culture broadly still stands. ::shrug::
Even though I agree with kal on the principle and on the real importance of Minecraft in the history of gaming, I have to say that this is much easier than Pokémon (like them or not...). Many can be guessed by a layperson and it's not too hard to memorize, because many have generic names, whereas Pokémon have stupid portmanteau names that can't be guessed if you never heard or read them. On the other hand, those generic names in Minecraft only show how bland the game is (in addition to being ugly by nature).
Disagree. the blandness makes it harder to remember imo. I haven't even gotten close to the minimum and don't feel like taking the time to memorize random animals.
I think other games that have had penetration into popular consciousness similar to Pokemon might include... Super Mario Bros, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, maybe Tetris, maybe Angry Birds, Grand Theft Auto (very iffy), Tomb Raider maybe, Resident Evil maybe, Sonic the Hedgehog (very iffy), Final Fantasy or The Legend of Zelda (very, very iffy), maybe Call of Duty or Halo?... and... Pac-Man?... and that's about it.
I think he was probably trying to make the point that asking people to know obscure details about one specific game was generally a bad idea. I could be misinterpreting, though. But I've never heard of those games, either, so that's what it seemed like to me.
Got 21 today. My high score, but only half of what's required for the gamer badge. I maintain that this quiz is impossible without devoting time to memorizing something meaningless, or having played the game, which is something that not very many gamers have done. Should reconsider having it be required for the gaming badge. Video games by plot, Video game quotes, Video games A-Z, Movies based on video games, Top NES games, Top Atari 2600 games, Street Fighter characters, etc would all make more sense to include as part of the badge requirements.
okay. whoever you are. Doesn't change the fact that the average person and average gamer knows them much better than Minecraft mobs. I mean you've got Zangief randomly showing up in Disney movies that gross half a billion worldwide. Somebody has probably heard of him.
Skeleton horses spawn with skeleton warriors if a horse is struck by lightning. Wandering trader llamas are just regular llamas with different skins, the wandering trader is its own mob because A. It has its own spawn egg and B. It has abilities that regular villagers don't (e.g potions)
Foxes, like ocelots, can't be tamed, you can only earn their trust by feeding them or stealing them from their parents. Pufferfish poison you in self defense, they don't hunt you if provoked. Iron golems only attack you if you provoked them and you aren't their creator. Plus, the golems are in utility because they can be used for many things like defense or farms
I don't think this one should be part of a badge, a badge should be about general knowledge about a topic, Minecraft is a single specific videogame so if you've never played it you can't get the badge at all.
Also, can you accept cat for ocelot? I forgot what they were called.
:D
Polar Bear
Evoker
Husk
Skeleton Horseman
Stray
Vex
Vindicator
Llama
(Here I got 20 right but I know nothing about minecraft, just that it is a game, so it was 100% guesswork)
If you really are adamant (or care nothing about the game) that this quiz should not be on the badge, then you can do what you want. Heck, you can even get a wiki to give you the answers. However, the purpose of quizzing sites is to learn something.
Kinda agree with @shade9099 on this one

"But it has not had a big impact on popular culture."
Minecraft is...
The 8th most played game in terms of users (above games like Microsoft Solitaire and Fortnite);The 9th biggest franchise (above games like Final Fantasy and Sonic the Hedgehog);
And THE single best-selling video game (above even the original Super Mario Bros.).
And according to this list it says that it could be considered the best game of all time.
Not to mention the number of platforms this game is in (Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, just to name a few).
You can find more information about Minecraft having a big impact on popular culture on the Cultural impact section of the Wikipedia page for it.

I think it's fair to say that you will never see the question "Which of these is not a Minecraft mob?" on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
of course it's up to QM. Just voicing an opinion.
https://prnt.sc/qf1351
plus, skeleton horses are passive unless being ridden by a skeleton
my only mistake was ocelot
Plus, there's only 12 to remember. Not 67.
Cheers on the Minecraft hell being hell so interesting now!

it's not a mob
