With due respect, a number of these originate from movie musicals that some years later were translated into stage shows. Cases in point Mary Poppins, Lion King, Wizard of Oz

I got 11 and ONLY because I saw some of the movies. I've never seen any of these as plays.

I don't think the Broadway version (before the movie) of Wizard of Oz included Over the Rainbow. There have been post-movie versions of Wizard of Oz using the songs from the movie but I don't think they've run on Broadway. Anyone know for sure?

Wikipedia: "It was written for the movie The Wizard of Oz (1939) "

There have been stage adaptations of the film The Wizard of Oz that have played regionally, in the UK, in special arena presentations -- but never on Broadway. The "Wizard of Oz" musical that DID play on Broadway happened in 1902-3, with the participation of Baum and with a radically rewritten story. It had none of the songs we know, obviously, as they were written for the 1939 film. (The title of the famous song, by the way, is "Over the Rainbow" without Somewhere.)

Some I know, even more I guessed just by typing famous musicals.

Is there a Broadway version that's actually called The Wizard of Oz? I thought The Wiz was the only adaptation that was on Broadway, but it didn't use "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".

I would love to see something from Avenue Q. Maybe 'The Internet is for Porn,' 'If You were Gay,' or 'Everyone's a Little Bit Racist.'

Totally throw a few people off, and its Tony Award winning! (It beat out Wicked the year they came out).

Yeah, as some others have pointed out, there isn't a Broadway version of The Wizard of Oz that uses "Over the Rainbow." In fact, the only Broadway version of the story I can find (besides adaptations like The Wiz and Wicked) is the 1904 version mounted by Baum himself, but that well preceded the song.
