Note, that even though the title says ban, there are a lot of exceptions. I left the word ban in the title for the sake of simplicity.

Also, I know this is a sensitive topic. Please, if you are going to comment, be civil. And if you feel the need to argue with another commenter, maybe take a breath and ask yourself if arguing with a stranger on the internet is the best use of your time.

It has nothing to do with political correctness. There is a certain (alarmingly large) segment of the population that thinks any plea for civility or basic common decency is "political correctness." In order to placate them, let me state in terms of which they would approve: those people are idiots.

Tourist numbers might be interesting, but people are considerably more likely to come from each of these countries for reasons other than tourism (with Iran perhaps being an exception). Most of the others have unstable or repressive governments where lives are at stake.

Many people travelling from these countries are coming for study or to visit family members. E.g. there's a huge Iranian expat community in LA (aka 'Tehrangeles').

This list basically just targets Venezuela (643,784 admissions in 2015, just under 1% of the 77 million entrants to USA). The other eight countries have just 61,000 visits between them (Chad 1176; Iran 35,266; Libya 2879; North Korea 99; Somalia 359; Syria 16,010; Yemen 5549).

Probably because Venezuela's president has said some nasty things about Trump. and they figure they throw it and North Korea (as if there are tons of North Koreans clamoring to get in to the United States and they all have such an easy time of getting visas, too- how stupid) on the list and now they can point at them and say it's not about religion.

It's not about religion. It's about terrorism and threat to national security. If it was purely on Islam, then Indonesia & Nigeria would be on the list; out of the top 10 countries with the most Muslims, only Iran is on the list.

Not trying to start a huge arguement, but the countries that the travel ban covers are all Muslim countries except North Korea and Venezuela. Just because the countries with the most muslims aren't included does not mean that the ban is not aimed at muslims.

It absolutely is. The USA already vets visa applicants. It was already very difficult to obtain visas to the US coming from countries like Somalia or Afghanistan. Executive orders banning people from certain countries is obviously just red meat being thrown to Trump supporters... and in the case of the Trump travel ban it is, by the man's own admission, an attempt to appear as though he fulfilled his campaign promise to ban all Muslim immigration to the United States. Now since that is not lawful... they've attempted to obfuscate and distort the intent by only including some countries and not others, and now, by throwing on a couple countries without a Muslim majority. And apparently some people have fallen for this. It isn't and never was about security it's purely a political move. One that is completely counter-productive in terms of what's good for the nation.

Precisely! Add a non-Muslim country to the list, then go back to the Supreme Court and say that the six Muslim countries you targeted aren't really targeted at Muslims any more...

I'd have to imagine there's some concern of ISIS being able to print Chadian Passports combined with the large unguarded border with Libya (Though Algeria also shares a similarly large, and similarly unguarded bored). I haven't looked into it but this would be my guess. Do not take my comment as a statement of fact

Not sure why this is really considered 'new' since similar travel bans were in effect under the Bush and Obama administrations. This version just makes a few 'in essence' travel bans (e.g. North Korea) more clear.
