I'm not sure its the right answer. I kept trying "mount Cook" in NZ, which is 3724m. Thats more than a km higher than Australia's. Not sure if I'm missing something, I'm sure thats the highest in Oceania. And also there's a taller mountain in Papua new guinea, which is usually grouped as part of that continent

The tallest mountain is debated between some sources, so I accept both the tallest mountains in Australia and New Guinea. I did add more type-ins, though.

There is no debate that Mount Wilhelm is taller than Kosciuszko, at 4 509m compared to 2 228m. Kosciuszko should not be accepted.
