Magnum PI
Buddy Ebsen stars as a private eye who comes out of retirement to solve the murder of his son Hal. Working with his widowed daughter-in-law, Betty, they solved the case and decided to continue the detective agency together. . The title character was unusual, ordering milk in restaurants and bars, counter to the stereotypical hard drinking detective.
Barnaby Jones
In this late 1950's show Mike Connors starred as "Nick" who went undercover to infiltrate criminal gangs.
Tightrope
Series set in the fictional town of Neptune, CA, stars Kristen Bell as the title character, a high school/college student who moonlights as a private investigator under the watchful eye of her detective father.
Veronica Mars
Craig Stevens as a well-dressed private investigator who loves cool jazz and hangs out at Mother's. Show best know for the theme song by Henry Mancini.
Peter Gunn
The series was about a laid back PI who worked out of his mobile home in Malibu, CA.. The opening credits featured the theme playing while an anwering machine answered a call.
