This one is of red, white and blue
And home to The Stones and The Who
We're spread across islands
With one of them Ireland
And our head was Elizabeth Two

Our flag bears a star
And war's never far
'Cause Palestine's laid claim to our space

We've the Caspian Sea to our east
And the plov forms part of our feast
We were freed in the nineties
Which was pretty good timing
And our four-letter capital was unleashed

As Ellice, we were part of an Empire
Now our nine islands are ours to admire
We're for the almighty
Whilst pledging to Blighty
And our fekei is best cooked on the fire

Our flag is striped red, green and gold
And our winters can get rather cold
We were ruled by the Prussians
And then by the Russians
And our Old Town's a sight to behold

1810 saw our Spanish rule reversed
Now we say that the homeland is first
'86 was our Cup
The chihuahua’s our pup
And it’s tequila that quenches our thirst

We were once well beloved for our phones
Though for small Angry Birds we're now known
You'll make us feel homely
By saying Suomi
And in our saunas bare bodies are shown
Finland

We're big fans of ackee and fish
That's 'cause it's our national dish
We prayed with our Rastas
So Usain ran faster
And to live as One People's our wish

An inventive idea for a quiz. In limerick five, the rhyme is a trifle forced. How about finishing it off thus: "We like to expand, From our own native land, Well into Armenia, at least"?

In #9, I think you mean to say "homey". "Homely" means unattractive.

Really? In which variety of English? Here in Ireland it means comfy, cosy, like a home.

In American English, homely is more commonly used in a derogatory fashion—describing someone as such means that they look plain, or unattractive as kawow said.

this was awesome! Although Limerick #8's first line has too many syllables? Or am I just saying it in the wrong accent?
