Walking around Caracas for like 8 hours being the only "gringos" in sight was probably a bit dumb now that I'm thinking. The team of Lonely Planet got robbed three times in one day on the same main pedestrian street we used. There was a slight sense of danger when our shuttle service from El Salvador to Guatemala had a police escort.
I would feel relatively safe in 5 of the top 6 countries if I took precautions and such (not going into the dangerous part of town!), but Caracas? No way I would go there at the moment.
