Super Smash Bros. Stages by Debut

Each stage in Smash is based on a game. Given only the games, can you guess its matching stage(s)?
For games with multiple stages, you will need to type the stages in alphabetical order
Think of stages like characters: even though Mario’s design is based off of Odyssey, he still debuted in Donkey Kong
Not including Battlefield, Big Battlefield, Small Battlefield, Final Destination, Castle Siege, King of Fighters Stadium, Pokémon Stadiums 1 & 2 or Poké Floats because they aren’t really “from” anything

Great quiz! The timer was perfect; I got down to 5 seconds left and then got the last one. I have a lot of questions about the games these are based on though. Some of them are just mistakes I think, such as Wuhu Island being based on Wii Sports Resort rather than Wii Fit, and Midgar and Northern Cave being based on FFVII rather than Final Fantasy, but other times I just get confused on your criteria. Why is Paper Mario based on Thousand Year Door specifically? Why is Yggdrasil's Altar based on Dragon Quest II and not XI? Why are the Flat Zones baed on Fire and Helmet specifically since they switch to various Game & Watch games? I read the description, but I struggle to see why Castle Siege and KOF Stadium aren't included but Kongo Jungle is? I'm not trying to be nitpicky, as I really, really like what you did with this quiz, I'm just trying to help make it even better. Personally, I would base the game off of what the stage select screen says to keep it more consistent.

For stages like Flat Zone 2, Flat Zone X, and Paper Mario where they’re a combination of locations from multiple games I listed its debut game as the earliest game it references. Flat Zone 2 and X reference many Game & Watch games of which the oldest is Fire, and the Paper Mario stage only references Sticker Star and Thousand-Year Door specifically.

I put Yggdrasil’s Altar and Wuhu Island the way they are because those are the games those locations debuted in, even if the stages are based on their appearances in other games. Wuhu Island first appeared in the jogging mini game in Wii Fit which released a bit before Wii Sports Resort, and Yggdrasil (the giant tree) has been a staple of the Dragon Quest series since Dragon Quest II. I’ve never played Dragon Quest before so I can’t say for sure whether the Yggdrasil in DQ11 is the same as the one in DQ2, but I find it to be a similar case as how we say Link is from The Legend of Zelda on NES and not BOTW, even though it’s clearly the

Link from that game.

Castle Siege and KOF Stadium aren’t included since they literally just aren’t based on anything. Castle Siege is a generic castle outside, inside, and lava area. Nothing alludes to any specific game, it’s rather just meant to be a general representation of the series as a whole. KOF Stadium is kind of the same thing but backwards. To my knowledge there is a Stadium stage in every KOF game each with their own design, so in Smash instead of trying to consolidate them all into one stage it creates a whole new design based on a football stadium. No KOF game has a Stadium based on a football stadium so it feels disingenuous to say that comes from a game. I could either say it’s from KOF 1 where the tradition started or from Smash where the design originates, both have their own pros and cons, so I just decided not to include it. This is one I’m most on the fence about so I might include it.

I included Kongo Falls over the other 2 since it’s the name of a

level in DKC, and I view the stage as the Smash interpretation of the level similar to Summit or Skyworld. There definitely an argument to be made that the same logic should apply to KOF Stadium. Oh well.

I said the Midgar and Northern Cave was from Final Fantasy and not FF7 because I’m stupid and forgot to write the number 7. lol :p

That is fairly sound logic. I do still disagree with some things (Hyrule Castle actually debuted in A Link To The Past, and if we're going by debut rather than appearance as you said in the second caveat...) but this is your quiz and not mine. It's still a ton of fun and I have since improved my time significantly.

Besides, the quiz I'm releasing shortly after typing this comment is sure to be similarly difficult to make consistent.

Good catch with Hyrule Castle. That was like the third stage I did before I had really thought out the rules. Will fix.
