This is based on the "Global Peace Index"... which I don't think really translates into "safest." It's based on a lot of different things, many of which are purely perception and not reality, and many of which have to do with politics and violence external to the countries being ranked. Also, the index does not rank about 40 countries.

I mean, the USA is ranked around 100th on the list. You'd have to be out of your mind if you actually believed you were safer in Haiti (92nd), Swaziland (88th), Liberia (80th) or Botswana (32nd, really?), where rates of violent crime are much higher, AIDS is rampant, and you're much more likely to get caught in a natural disaster without any relief workers coming to rescue you.

On the other hand, Monaco, Palau, Singapore, Brunei, Luxembourg, Bahrain, and about 40 other countries have lower rates of homicide than the Czech Republic does, but either they are not ranked or they are ranked lower for various reasons- most not related to safety.

The problem here is, what should be considered criteria for safety.

For example: if it was places with the least natural disasters, the Baltic countries would be at the top.

This quiz reflects not which countries are the most peaceful, but rather which countries value peace with other countries the most.

The Globak Peace Index is based upon how peaceful a country is, not how safe one is.
