During the first wave of colonialism and New Imperialism, several countries mainly in Europe invaded and colonized much of the rest of the world. Can you name these countries?
Per the comments from hwes and NigelS, I've been looking for a better source for this quiz. My search has been mostly fruitless, but I found a Wikipedia page that had the countries previously on the quiz plus the ones mentioned in the comments. Accordingly, the quiz has been updated. Several new answers have been added: Austria, Brandenburg, Courland, Norway, and the Knights of Malta (the latter auto-filled).
The new source is far from perfect, but I think it's better than the old one. If anyone else can find a good source for this, I would be grateful to hear it. Hope you enjoy!
I am aware of them, but thank you for telling me. In the source Wikipedia article, they are listed under "Other countries with colonial possessions". I assume they aren't counted as full colonial empires because they only had colonies for fairly brief periods of time (two generations at the most). I'm gonna leave this quiz as-is, because if I start deviating from whatever source I use, then people are going to flood me with requests to add this or remove that, and we'll end up with "Cyprus is European"-type disputes. I'll probably go hunting for a better source if I get bored.
Czechs, Slovaks, Hungarians, Croats, Bosnians, Slovenes, Serbs, Poles, Ukrainians and Romanians would all, I think, expect the Austrian/Habsburg Empire to be on this list since 'invaded and colonised' are your criteria for including an empire.
Augsburg-Nuremberg, Scotland (Because of Panama and Nova Scotia ( literally New Scotland), England (this was not the British Empire) and the North Sea Empire
