Thanks! Yeah, Napoleon did end up conquering Genoa in 1797, turning into the puppet Ligurian Republic before annexing it to France proper.

I don't really get it, but what I meant with the "annexation to France proper" was the establishment of direct French control over the area.

Genoese Tabarqa is such an obscure little territory from history; I suppose that if they'd held onto it for another century, Italy might have used it as a basis to claim all of Tunisia, instead of it going to France. Fascinating stuff. Nominated, by the way!

Thanks! They did hold onto it for a few centuries, I believe it was one of the very last overseas holdings they ended up losing.
