Click on the map to zoom in if certain states are hard to see.
Holy Roman Empire outlined in red. Swiss Confederacy outlined in green.
While the borders of the Holy Roman Empire might not be entirely perfect, it should be a decent representation of which states made up parts of it.

I wondered about that too. It took some digging, but I finally found it thanks to DrakiGuy's comment below. Seems it was a Tatar khanate and vassal state of Russia. Here's the Wikipedia page.

Pretty funny there's a little piece of Spain in the middle of France (is it Lyon or somewhere near it?), i'm assuming it's something with the royal families. And also, that Papal States' area, is it Avignon?

Not sure to be honest. And yes, that is indeed Avignon.

Good SVG, but one thing definitely needs to be changed. The four Khanates were just divisions of the Mongol Empire. Please accept "Mongol" as a type in. I enjoyed exercising my ever-expanding knowledge of old European states.

The old Habsburg lands were surely just a formality at this point?
+4
Level 55
Apr 19, 2021
The reorganisation into the Austrian Empire didn't happen until 1804. This was still when a majority of the possessions were to be considered to be in personal union. Either way, it would've either been erroneously labelling all of the possessions as an unified entity as the "Habsburg Monarchy" or show the possessions separately like this map does.

OTOH Spain was consolidated only in early 18th century, and Catalonia was in the middle of the war, hardly a part of France.
+1
Level 55
Apr 19, 2021
Spain is staying as it is considering it's generally pretty acceptable showing it the way its shown here.I will take a look at Catalonia's borders however.
+1
Level 95
Apr 19, 2021
During the war, the catalan government recognised Louis XIII of France as count of Barcelona in 1641 but in 1652 it recognised back again Philip IV of Spain. Thus at this moment Catalonia was in personal union with France. May be you could add Catalonia as an answer with a coloured border outlining the possessions of th king of France or if it doesn't disrupt too much the quiz change it to "countries of Europe in 1652" and include Catalonia in Spain
