The legume used in dal makhani and pappadums is actually black gram, also known as urad bean. In Indian English, 'lentil' is just a synonym for 'pulse', i.e. dried legume seeds.

Black gram is almost always referred to as "black lentil" in American English. I realize that it's not technically a lentil and that black lentils are a different thing. But that's how they're almost always referred to here. Also, again in the USA, black gram are often hard to find, so quite a few papadam are just made with lentil flour anyway.

But regardless, when I made the quiz I set anything containing "gram" to be a type-in, so it shouldn't be an issue.
