There are several ways of spelling the lake that I have seen (Yssk-Kul, Ysyk-Kul) that aren't accepted

Please have a look at this wiki article. The idea that the Epic of Manas is older than Homer's work has no serious support.

The clue is not stating that

I guess @rocamorar misunderstood the clue that the Epic is 'thought to be more than 1,000 years old' than Homer's Odyssey. I misunderstood the clue as well until I read the comments.

Why oh why have they made wife-kidnapping illegal? It's political correctness gone mad.

I knew that because Genghis Khan's mother was kidnapped by his father, so I figured it was still happening.

the thing in the middle is the tunduk, which is the center part of the roof of the yurt. It does have 40 sun rays around it though, that are supposed to represent the 40 Kyrgyz tribes.

Didn't do well (11/17) but I'll come back and hopefully learn something.
Level 65

It's a terrible practice, and I'm glad it's illegal, but please, someone tell me that 'ala kachuu' is pronounced 'I'll-a catch you'.

I saw a documentary on this and it seemed very staged and ritualized. The young girl was crying but I think it's because she knew that's what was expected. Very weird custom but not too far removed from the cultural expectation of how men and women should interact that I found in many countries, even Russia.
