I am amazed by such nonsense :

1) There is hardly no country with more multiculturalism than western Europe (and therefore Europeans are not only white - and even if they were, why would it matter ?)

2) Even if countries inside Europe have a common history, there is a vast diversity of cultures (there is not a lot of similarities between Portugal and Kosovo, not even the religion)

3) When a person voluntarily migrates to another country, many factors come into play in the choice of country. Among them, there can be the desire to be close to one's country of origin, to be in a country that offers a higher standard of living than one's own, or the desire not to find oneself in a culture that is too far from one's own.

This is why there are more French, Germans and Italians in Switzerland than in Somalia, more Kuwaitis in the United Arab Emirates than in Haiti and more Malaysians in Singapore than in Moldova.

one might also expect one of the wealthiest countries in the world to be taking a few more than 5000 refugees annually...

I know you speak about Switzerland but I can't help thinking of what would happen to Monaco if they were doing so!

I’m very critical of my government regarding our immigration policy. Nevertheless two remarks:

The dominance of migrants from neighbouring European countries is also the consequence of the Schengen treaty which allows free movement for citizens of EU and EFTA countries. Whereas if you’re from another country looking for work, your employer has to prove he couldn’t find a Swiss, EU or EFTA employee.

The refugee policy is comparably harsh to other European countries. The number of 5000/year is misleading though. There are different types of permits for refugees, in many cases temporary permits are converted into permanent ones after several years on “humanitarian grounds”, as happened with larger groups of refugees, e.g. Bosnians or Kosovars. Between February 24 and October 2022, Switzerland has given temporary permits (which run through 2024) to 60,000 Ukrainians.
