Would you consider "The Great Hunger" as an alternative name for the Famine? That was the name of the book by Cecil Woodham-Smith on the subject.

Poetic names for Ireland could also include Kathleen Ni Houlihan or Eireann- that clue could do with being more precise, and Gorta Mor is also a common name for the Famine.

11,000 years of people in Ireland and this is the best you could come up with? Very limited and way too much emphasis on the last few decades.

Another vote for "An Gorta Mor" for the famine and "Emerald Isle / Cathleen ni Houlihan / Dark Rosaleen" for poetic name. There must be more poetic names for Ireland too.
