Btw, about the National Union Party, in the 1864 election the republican party changed it's name to the National Union Party to attract Democrats and Know-Nothing party supporters, in order to to be, well, unified.
Also, most of the southern states were, well, let's just say they weren't really in the mood to participate in elections. *McClellan lost in these 2 states.
