That's not quite true. The true summit of mont blanc is on the French side. The italain side is slightly lower, so France has a higher maximum elevation that Italy. The lower down summit on the italian side is called the 'Monte Bianco di Courmayeur'.
This is actually disputed. Italy claims that the border between France and Italy passes at the summit of Mont Blanc, whereas France claims that the border runs just a little further down on the Italian side. As far as I know, the dispute is still not resolved (and, frankly, nobody really cares, not even in France or Italy), but, this being jetpunk, the quiz should probably at least specify that the answer is disputed.
But afaik the normal guardsmen are not allowed to live together with a woman in the vatican city. Therefore their children (if they have) would count for Italy.
So obviously all the other countries that touch. But in some cases, there are countries within 100 km that don't touch. For example, Russia is within 100 km of the US (Siberia to Alaska). Cuba and the Bahamas are probably more than 100 km from the US, but they are still neighbors.
It was sixteen answers before it got featured. I am thinking that we may add a few more questions in about a year or so, because the Quizmaster doesn't like featured quizzes getting reset and making people losing points.
Why does the UK beat Italy at islands with >1m inhabitants? Italy has Sicily and Sardinia, and the UK has Great Britain and Ireland, see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_islands_by_population. Please correct this!
France has 18 countries within 100 km, way more than Italy:
Italy, Switzerland, Monaco, Andorra, Spain, Germany, Luxembourg and UK (Channel islands) from mainland France; Netherlands from St Martin, St Kitts and Antigua from St Barth, Dominica from Guadeloupe, St Lucia from Martinique, Canada from St Pierre et Miquelon, Comoros from Mayotte, Suriname and Brazil from French Guyana.
Italy has 16, and because St. Bart and St. Pierre are merely territories and not departments, St. Kitts and Canada should be removed from your list. This brings France's total also to 16, tying Italy. This means France does not belong as an answer, but I will edit the quiz to represent the fact that Italy is tied for third and not alone in that standing.
seems like there's been lots of confusion with "With most other countries within 100 kilometers"
personally, i think it'll make more sense without "with" at the beginning. that really threw me off. i had no clue what that meant and just guessed countries randomly till i got it.
I think the U.S. should be added to the list of countries with more islands than Italy. Even disregarding Puerto Rico, it has Long Island, Manhattan, and Oahu.
Isn't the highest point in Italy Mont Blanc which is also part of France?
I swear on other quizzes if there is a tie for the same position its included
Currently the way I read it is Russia and Italy are tied for the height of tallest mountain...
France should be a valid answer
It just means any country within 100km of the border - so bigger countries are better.
technically, this was our first since mid December ...Great quiz anyway
Thanks!
Also, I'd love it if people checked out the "Countries That Beat" quiz that I recently made for Bangladesh! You can find it here :)
Just, will you add a bit more answers? It could be funnier.
So I will late a year before taking it.
