Name the 20 countries that rank the highest ('goodest') overall in the Good Country Index, based on the 2022 ranking.
The Good Country Index ranks countries according to seven categories: Science and Technology, Culture, International Peace and Security, World Order, Planet and Climate, Prosperity and Equality, and Health and Wellbeing.
I know - that's why I put the 'word' in inverted commas. A search of 'goodest countries' on Google gives links to articles and websites relating to the Good Country Index. I decided to use 'goodest' as it is associated with this Index (on which this quiz is based) rather than 'best', which sounds (in my opinion) more subjective and could be gauged in many different methods.
Very weird that North Macedonia and Moldova are on here, but not the United States. Must be due to their methodology. Also, India is ranked a place higher than Malaysia (where I'm from) according to the latest report. Weird.
The US is not what I would call good. *cough* capital punishment *cough* Gitmo *cough* health insurance *cough* gun laws - wait what? did i just say an oximoron???
Hi, to make something bold use < b >TEXT HERE< / b > (without the spaces); to italicise use < i >TEXT HERE< / i > (no spaces again); to underline use < u >TEXT HERE< / u > (remove spaces as before). To change colour use < font color = "ENTER COLOR HERE" >TEXT HERE< / font > (remember no spaces). I don't know how to do a colour gradient, or have animated text; seems like @DodomaAstatine does.
Yes, according to the official 2018 rankings (equally surprising to me). Ranking #27 overall, Moldova is #33 in Contribution to Science & Technology, #49 in (Contribution to) Culture, #10 in International Peace & Security, #50 in World Order, #73 in Planet & Climate, #38 in Prosperity & Equality, and #41 in Health & Wellbeing. Details regarding the components can be seen in the link.
The United States is currently ranked #40, most let down by 'International Peace & Security' (#101), mainly by the components 'International violent conflict' and 'Arms exports', and Planet & Climate (#95), mainly by the component 'Environmental agreements compliance'.
The climate ranking is probably deserved but US involvement in international violence does more to contain and mitigate conflict than it does to incite it. So that's pretty silly.
The obvious problem with that is that it automatically promotes tiny states which don't do anything internationally - it views trying to do good as being worse than doing nothing. Ho hum
Hang on, it puts Russia 75 places above the USA for contribution to peace and security! That really is a joke.
Oh. Several places below Zimbabwe. Errrm... shall you tell them or shall I...
