Wish the picture zoom was greater. Probably won't make a big difference on this version of the quiz but I was going to try two more versions with more obscure places... and I was hoping that users could look for clues like the letter codes on local license plates and so on. Not possible with such small images.
I took the same car many places in the US, too- Washington, New York, Chicago, Philly, Miami, Key West... just never thought to take a photo in front of anything famous. Probably the most recognizable landmark I've got a picture by is the Sully Station Safeway supermarket.
a year later, some people have guessed McDonald's, but now I am perplexed that that Stalin Line Museum is more-guessed than the AlAqsa Mosque. Granted, it's not exactly a good photo of either, but still, one is the 3rd holiest site in Islam and central focus of the Middle East conflict, the other is a little-known tourist trap in the least visited country in Eastern Europe.
The section of Autobahn where I stopped had a pretty wide shoulder. I was actually dis-assembling to top to the car before I took that shot. The picture on the King Fahd Causeway was probably a lot more dangerous... in addition to the shoulder being much more narrow the drivers over there are also insane. (mostly the Saudis) But I took that photo in the early afternoon on a week day and there wasn't much traffic.
.. in front of the Potemkin Stairs that was like 3 in the morning no traffic at all. In front of Al Aqsa Mosque I stopped first and got permission from the Israeli security forces there to take a picture. By the Berlin Wall I think I just put my emergency flashers on then hopped out and took a quick snapshot. Same in front of the Brandenburg Gate.
it's true, and I'm still sore about it. Just ask any of the Serbian users on the site. Never go there; worst experience in Europe by a country mile. Even including Ukraine where I got the crap beat out of me under a dark bridge in the snow.
I had already stopped authorizing quizzes very often before my announced departure; I still author quizzes very rarely. I never intended to stop coming to the site completely; but I have cut back. However, I did intend to stop commenting altogether, at least on quizzes not my own; I did that for a while, but, lately, I comment once in a while. Still, much, much less than I used to.
Leaving a comment here on one of my favourite quizzes from the past 6 years I've been on this site. Disappointing because it sounds like you are genuinely leaving this time, but I guess we all have to move on eventually.
Doubt you'll ever see this but congrats on the recent 2 million, 11 years of amazing content, and the influence on thousands that have visited this website, including myself. Wish you the best Kal
... thanks... it's nice to get a positive comment like this once in a while amid the random poorly articulated death threats, hate spams, and condescension from hypocrites.
I miss being on the site sometimes. Most days don't even think about it anymore, though. However, I'm glad that the time I spent here positively impacted some people out there. It never was my intention to do the opposite.
I can't beleive you stopped your car on the highway!
It is amazing how you are level 80 and eric29cocoanuts is also a high level (79) that impresses me!
(I like to talk a lot)
