Michigan has 56,538 square miles of land. The U.K. has 93,628. If you're going by the common mistake of including the vast amounts of water around Michigan, that opens up a giant can of worms when we decide to add in the U.K.'s 200-nautical mile economic zone as well. By such methods, Hawaii suddenly becomes the 4th largest state with its surrounding waters.
