I know nothing about Chinese, yet just saying the words in a weird way and trying to decipher sounds allowed me to get 42/50! I was very surprised how similar sounding they were

Absolutely fantastic quiz, please make more like this!

Many thanks! That’s the idea behind the quiz; I want it to be guessable for non-Chinese speakers, while also teaching a little bit (such as the words for North, South, New, Island, etc.). Sometimes I fully agree with the pinyin name, and other times I think, “Man, they really could have done better!”

I’m hoping to start a series of these. I’ll first have another one just adding the territories, then it’s off to the rest of the world!

Great! Any thoughts on adding a map, to keep track of what answers are still missing?

I hadn't really considered it. My primary focus is seeing whether people can recognize the original names hidden in the Chinese versions. If I were to do that, I would probably release a new quiz with it. I don't have any map quiz experience, so I probably won't make it until after I do some more text quizzes.

Vermont is the worst. I don't really love "fuming tea"!
