Strange that beer and whiskey originated in Muslim countries (Iran and Iraq respectively). Or that the origin of Rum is Barbados and not Jamaica. Also, the Netherlands is more closely associated with Gin than the UK, which is famous for its Whiskey.

I was also surprised about beer being created in Iran, but beer is quite an ancient beverage. It was actually created before Islam and even Judaism was founded. The start of human civilization was around Mesopotamia which is why some drinks have their origins around the modern day middle east. There is a cool trend where the farther from Iraq the drink is created the more modern the drink is.
