I initially tried "Phillip Seymour" for Hoffman. He won Best Actor in 2005.

There's a lot of ambiguity as to who's "more famous" on many of these quizzes, and I think this is yet another one of them.

It doesn't matter at all who is "more famous." Dustin is still a (and in this case THE) correct answer to the question.

I tried to find last names that were not shared by multiple A-List actors. Phillip Seymour Hoffman never crossed my mind when selecting Dustin Hoffman. I would say Dustin is the much more famous of the two, but your point is definitely valid.

Dustin was the first guy I thought of as well but these days I think Philip Seymour is at least as well known and well respected, if not more. Dustin's career peaked quite a while ago.

Thanks for adding Philip Seymour Hoffman. Kalbahamut made a good point.

Revisiting this 8 years later...yeah...Philip Seymour Hoffman is definitely more famous now.

Good quiz. Got 26 out of 28. Not too bad. Don't know who Peter Dinklage is though. Can't believe i missed viggo mortensen...he's a really talented actor and there's like four or five good movies i saw him in....oh well.

Peter Dinklage is probably best known as Tyrion Lannister in game of thrones, although since you commented 9 years ago maybe it was too early to have heard much about it.

Quite a few of these are common first names (Ben, Paul, Christopher etc). So a tougher challenge would be to name the actors in order.

For Dreyfuss, my first thought was "julia louis" from Seinfeld and Veep fame.

haha, didn't read the caveats, just the title "Actors by last name" and the term actor is used for both male and female, perhaps the title should reflect the fact that it's only males.

Actor only refers to males, actress refers to females, so calling it actors in fine.

Style guides generally agree that "actor" is gender-neutral and should be used instead of "actress," except when referring to specific awards that use the term (such as the Academy Award for Best Actress.)

You should check out a wonderful book called "Baby Steps" by Dr. Leo Marvin. It was featured on Good Morning America.

I tried Norma Jean Mortensen - I think she is more well known than Viggo.

However the names are spelled differently. Norma Jean is Mortenson.

Marilyn Monroe may be more well-known, but she is unarguably not more well known by the name Mortenson. She never used that name personally, going by "Norma Jean Baker" from the time she was two years old, and certainly didn't use it professionally.
