For me the kerning was off on churn (or more likely I'm just not wearing my glasses). I read Chum. I was trying bloodbat, fishgutspigeon sharkmosquito. I'm glad none of these exist.

It should be a note to follow so/sew not sol- but I probably still wouldn't have got the answer. Really enjoying these quizzes though- thank you

"So" is how it is pronounced in the song; however, the note is traditionally spelled sol. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solf%C3%A8ge It also happens to be a fairly common crossword answer, which is the only reason I know that in the first place. :-)

The lyric from The Sound of Music is “sew, a needle pulling thread” etc. Had to sing the thing out loud to work out the clue! Lol

Doh... I kept reading layer as a noun, like stratum, not a verb. C'est la vie.

Once again, "RN" looks like "M," meaning that I spent a lot of wasted time wondering what a "chum" product was. All caps would solve that.

I second guessed myself on the last one (Chipmunk) because I thought no way there would be 2 clues involving monks, especially considering they were different clues... turns out I was wrong.

I have changed the CHURN clue since so many seem to be misreading that as CHUM. As soon as QM approves it, the update should be visible.

The opposite of a lord is a servant/peasant/commoner. A lady is not the opposite of a lord. This clue is poor.

None were imo, though I would suggest changing the second clue too first letter of the hebrew alphabet (aleph) (second part could be ant or aunt aswell, but font works too). Never heard of gaulding. Just got it from the 2nd part.

Opposite is a tricky concept in that a given thing can have many attributes. Often an "opposite" is only different in one particular attribute. You're thinking of social class as the operative attribute, but there's no reason it has to be the only one in play. The (perfectly reasonable) answer just happened to use a different attribute - sex.
