Undergarment is spelled wrong. May I suggest you change it to Female "unmentionable," or underclothing. Undergarment made me think of underwear.

Perhaps say 'former' leader of Iran? They haven't had a Shah since about 1980.

I agree - needs to be done.

I sat there for ages thinking how Ahmadinejad might fit in to a country name... :(

Well, since it would have to be a one-syllable answer...."shah" is about the only one that would work.

Humbug + Water precipitation = Bahrain

Feline + Asphalt = Qatar

Cold + Earth = Iceland

Tough root vegetable + fox's home = Sweden

Faeces (informal) + Car, house = Turkey

Small rocks + Hearing = Estonia

Please [___], can I have some more? + Hearing = Syria

Few more suggestions :)

Your suggested clues are great starts but most don't match the correct part of speech (e.g. ice is synonymous with cold water, not just "cold"). Also, Qatar is actually pronounced (for whatever reason), "cutter".

Tyu-niz-i-a in most places, but Too-neezha in the States. That might explain that clue getting the lowest score! Is "Tunisia" the country most differently pronounced between the US and elsewhere?

Exactly this. I knew it was shah and was trying to think of countries ending in a sound like Russia does. Most people do pronounce it Tyu-nis-eea so the clue just doesn't work outside the US.

Brits don’t say eye-rack either.
+2
Level 77
Oct 20, 2022
I wonder if i should have put a caveat that these are American English pronunciations. Even so, within American English you see differences by generation. Older folks would tend to pronounce Iraq as eye-rack, but younger people tend to say ear-rock. I believe that President Obama had a significant impact on the way younger people pronounce some of the Middle Eastern countries.
