Papal States is just Vatican city WHICH STILL EXISTS

While both countries could be defined by being under the direct sovereign rule of the Pope, the Papal States also had a representative system of each state being partially autonomous with their own governor. There was also a period of time after the unification of Italy when there was no independent state led by the Pope. Also, Vatican city is one state, making it only Papal State, not States.
