Columbus was not the founder of the USA -- or the finder, for that matter. And it's spelled Colombia.

In fact, Columbus didn't "find" or "found" anything. He stumbled onto the Dominican Republic.

I really thought that The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYRoM) took the crown for the longest name for a country followed by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

At a stretch you could also have the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, though it is usually shortened.

Fun quiz! I like how it was made to not be so serious ("lizarb" as a clue, for instance! Haha). I am really curious though, how is Russ a name? I suppose short for Russell. I was thinking it was supposed to be Ross somehow. However, I also tried Georgia, since without the -ia, linguistically speaking, it would still make "George". I'm sure some people would complain about it spelling-wise, though.
