WWII Battleship/Battlecruiser Classes

Given the country of origin, class designation (BB, BC, or *CB), and the standard displacement; name the class of warship, or any warship within the class for a correct answer. Ordered by standard displacement (heaviest to less heavy). - NOTE: This quiz includes only active "combat capable" warships from WW2 or those being built during the war but subsequently completed/commissioned closely after the wars end (by 1946). "Special" capital ships are denoted by *. These include those ships completed after the wars end or those that do not necessarily fall under the class of "battleship" or "battlecruiser" but are nonetheless, heavily armed ships (11 inch (280cm) main battery guns or greater) often designated as (CB) large cruisers. Good luck!

I only actually knew the Yamato, Iowa, and Bismarck classes.. (I knew the Hood, too, but forgot to guess it, and couldn't have told you what class it was in). Then I got 10 others by randomly guessing U.S. states.

The quiz should be World War II Batleships and Battle Cruisers. Including the Deautschland class is a bit of a stretch, but they appear that way in several books.

Excellent quiz, although some French, Italian and Russian dreadnoughts are missing. To those commenting that the 'Deutschland' class should not be in, the cruisers should not - but I believe that the quiz is referring to the three old pre-dreadnoughts reserved by Germany for coastal duties - Hannover, Schlesien and Schleswig-Holstein.

I typed Graf Spee and it gave me the point so unfortunately the quiz does include the armoured ships as battleships while overlooking the old pre-dreadnoughts.

Yes, it was missing a lot of ships due to my own ignorance but have since updated the quiz to include these and clarify the big-gunned > 11 inch large cruisers - ie. Alaska's and Deutschland's

why do you leave out the Courbet, Bretagne, Marat, Andea Doria, Conte di Cavour and Deutschland (pre dreadnought) classes? Strictly speaking Brazil joined the Allies so where's the Sao Paolo/Minais Gerais? And if you are referring to the WW2 era then Chile's Almirante Latorre, Argentina's Rivadavia and Turkey's Yavuz Sultan Selim should also be in there

Thanks for the comment! Updated the quiz on 30/10/2020. To answer your question, when I made the quiz back in 2013 I was but an ignorant child. I just made it for fun because of the stories my father told me about the more well-known navel battles. I didn't imagine it would get this much high-level use. Back then, I was completely unaware of the ships you mentioned and their histories, so thank you for pointing them out. They have been added. Cheers!

Deutschland class cannot be considered battleships by any official definition. They were nicknamed 'pocket battleships' by the British, but they were heavy cruisers. Vanguard wasn't commissioned until after WW2 and wasn't in active service until after hostilities, so it shouldn't really be on this list. Renown and Alaska weren't battleships. Renown was a battlecruiser, Alaska was officially a Large Cruiser but fit the definition of a battlecruiser. Otherwise, a good quiz.
