Seasons are not caused by the earth's orbit around the sun. They are caused by the tilt along the axis that the earth rotates.

If the earth would stand still ( i mean not orbit around the sun but still revolve on its own axis), there wouldnt be any seasons. Cause due to that tilt it would allways be summer in one hemisphere and winter in the other. Because the earth orbits around the sun, at one moment/season the axis is tilted away from the sun while 6 months later it is tilted towards the sun.

(I hope my explanation made sense, no english and had 3h sleep only..)
