I am really surprised by Liechtenstein. It is one of the wealthies countries, only after Qatar I think. I guess they do not have a lot of beds for tourists :P
That's pretty surprising that countries ruled by extreme regimes (Eritrea, Sudan) do not make the list and such beautiful island nations like Tonga or Micronesia do. Especially Micronesia is an interesting and glamorous. Does anybody know why does it actually happen?
More than anything, I'm guessing it's just how remote they are. I mean, I agree with you that Tonga and Micronesia are much nicer, but Eritrea and Sudan are relatively accessible given their locations in the center of Afro-Eurasia, whereas very few people live near the small Oceanian nations.
Is Nauru at the top because nobody has heard of it? I had to tell my geography teacher where Nauru was and that it's a country.
Surprising to see most of Polynesia here. I've never been, but I imagine that the tropical islands would be nothing short of paradise. Or am I being naïve? Are they actually horrible?
But will you ever actually go? A lot of people might dream of going to some of these places but never actually go there because they can't afford it, or it's too far, or whatever. So the countries that lots of people want to visit aren't necessarily the most visited.
Bit surprised that Liberia wasn't on the list. Dominica seems (to me) a lot more attractive to tourists, especially with the chance of cruises going there.
