I would never have considered The Everly Brothers a classic country duo. Country-influenced, yes, but I thought they were primarily known as rock-n-roll whose music crossed over both to the country and R & B charts. I know they were inducted into both the rock-n-roll and country halls of fame, but I still think of them as rock-n-roll.

While written and first recorded by Kris, Sammi Smith had the number one hit with "Help Me Make it Through the Night". I would think either would be correct
