You should also accept "Oedipus Rex," "Tristram Shandy" without the prologue, the same for "Huckleberry Finn," "Remembrance of Things Past," "Gargantua" on his own, and "Gilgamesh" without the "Epic."
agree. Tried that. Also would've gotten Gilgamesh with some sort of clue. I tried Old Goriot and Pere Goriot... Oh well, these are tough quizzes to make.
This definitely needs more time especially given that you have to try multiple answers for a number of these authors, e.g. Shakespeare, Dickens, Garcia Marquez, Ibsen ......
First, nice quiz. Didn't realize right away that the answers are in alphabetical order. Turned out to be helpful. Tried "Le Pere Goriot" and "Pere Goriot," since that's how I've always seen the title even in translation. Didn't occur to me to try "Father Goriot." Agree with earlier comment that "Fairy Tales" should be acceptable for the H.C. Andersen work. And some wiggle room with "Ilyich" would be helpful; it's been transliterated in various ways of the years. Maybe also "Mahab(h)arata." Time limit was tight but partly because some answers require multiple stabs at spelling.
I agree that there should be more time for this quiz. It was really fun going through the list, and being proud of myself how many I have read. The problem is, I didn't have a chance to get through more than two thirds of it, because for several ones I needed to make more guesses for "India" and "Shakespeare" and the like. (In some cases it was also a problem that there are quite a few titles I have never seen in English before.)
Yes, there should be more hints for the Epic of Gilgamesh, also the Book of Job, which is virtually impossible to point out among all the other books of the Bible. There are alternative translations, too, as it has been mentioned before (for Camus's book for example).
