I need to understand how in english, Y is sometimes a vowel and sometimes a consonant. If someone has a link, i would be glad to see that

I know this is late but if you still want to know, Y is a consonant when it is at the beginning of the word or is at the beginning of a syllable. Y is a vowel when there are no other vowels in the word, is at the end of a word or is in the middle or the end of a syllable.
