A lot of people probably got it because they have the knowledge banked from working on the Countries of the World Quiz

Thanks to the Countries of the World quiz, I now know all the countries of the world and the general area they're in. So I just typed in Brunei without even reading the clues. I completely blanked on Borneo even though I knew it. I guess I'm too tired to be taking quizzes.

For some reason, I could remember "Bandar Seri Begawan," but not the name of the country to which it belongs.

Re question 2, Crimea is in Europe not in Asia, so this question should not really feature in this quiz.

Why does this argument always resurface in these types of quizzes? Just enjoy the quiz for Pete's sake!

Actually, he may have a point. The answer is fine as the black sea borders Asian countries but the question is European. It's just about fine though and just in case anyone mentions, so is Bosporus.

Sawmos: Because Crimea is in Ukraine which is, and has always been, in Eastern Europe. The question that usually arises in these quizzes is whether Russia is in Europe or Asia.

I should have come up with the resort island. I was in a production of South Pacific, and that was one of the only islands mentioned.

Took this again a year later, still perplexed by "Ala-too square." Disappointed that nobody else seems to know what it means, either.

The Ala-Too Square is a square in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan which plays an important role in Kyrgyz history, because it was a central place for debating about Kyrgyzstan's political future. I don't think it is very famous outside of Kyrgyzstan, but inside it definitely plays a rather big role. Hope that answers your question :-)

Peking is still called Peking but with the introduction of Pinyin it's written differently as Beijing. Anyway the name of the city didn't changesince the fourteenth century.

I think the -stan countries deserve a lot more attention. I mean, Afghanistan and Pakistan are obviously known, sadly only due to political problems, and maybe you know Kazakhstan, but that is where it stops for most people. Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan also exist, and are actually very rich in culture and sights as well. I think that definitely more tourists should come to these countries that want to see raw, beautiful nature and blooming islamic culture. If you go to Uzbekistan, you can follow the trails of the Silk Road in Samarqand, and if you go to Kyrgyzstan you can hike on the Tian Shan (Celestial Mountains). Obviously, all of these countries have interesting history due to them being part of the Ancient Chinese Empire, having islamic influence and having a history in the soviet union as well. Just a little tip from me to you if you are looking for an interesting, empty place to go on vacation.

By the way, they are also good for winter/skiing vacations, due to them having a lot of snow in winter and rather cold temperatures. Each one of the countries have an at least little part of mountains. And...I'm not Uzbek, Turkmen, Tajikistani, Kyrgyz, Kazakh, Afghan or Pakistani. Just an Austrian guy trying to give you a "secret tip" for your next holiday.
