TL;DR It makes sense, it is just more complex
Was this just a random thought? A lot of people seem to think that when you are adamant enough and simply state something as fact it magically becomes true. If something is a near miss and you are convinced then it is atleast understandable (but I still advice to check it first before claiming other things are wrong)
None of these islands I've mentioned are external territories (though Lord Howe Island has a great degree of practical autonomy), so I think these are the right figures, or at least a great deal closer than those given in the quiz.
I would argue that France should probably bump the Solomons off the list, though, since France d'outre-mer is a part of France in the same sense Hawaii and Alaska are a part of the USA, and New Caledonia is slightly closer than NZ at 1214km.
