Is there supposed to be the population in the population column?

this quiz is a bit strange. I mean... in some cases you represent portions of empires as their rough present-day nation-state equivalent, and only count population of the "home" country for that empire's core (India is counted as a single country even though it was part of the British Empire and comprised India, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc); then in other cases you count the entire empire's population as that of a single country even though the empire extended into many modern nation states (Ottoman, Russian Empires). You put in Northern Nigeria but don't group it together with Southern Nigeria even though in other cases countries here are counted as a single unit when in 1900 they were similarly divided. On the other hand, other modern nation-states are left out like Vietnam because on the list you're working from those countries are divided into multiple parts (Tonking, Annam, and Cochin-China together had 15 million people).

I know you were just working with the list available on Wikipedia but I think the quiz already published using the same data handled it a little bit better. Might as well leave the empires as empires rather than trying to break it up since there are issues with consistency if you do try to break them up. The Austro-Hungarian empire is another example. Why not just count Austria? If London doesn't get credit for it's possessions then why does Vienna get to count Serbia, Montenegro, and the other countries that made up its empire?

Cool quiz in spite of all this. Just a bit confusing. cheerio.

I typed Myanmar, but it didn't accept it. You should change that.
