Emerald (a variety of beryl) is beryllium aluminum silicate (Be3Al2Si3O18) colored by traces of chromium and/or vanadium. Beryllium is not the primary constituent, either by mass, where it comes in last, or by number of atoms where it is second-to-last after aluminium. The primary element is oxygen.
