Also vlei, a shallow usually seasonal pond or lake. The term is used predominantly in South Africa as it is Afrikaans in origin.

Thanks! I'm really enjoying adding to my vocabulary today. Have added an underline to "common" in the instructions. If anyone comes up with tsne, an extinct marmoset previously endemic to southern Kamchatka, we'll upgrade "common" to bold as well.
