Enjoyed this one although I missed a lot, including several I should have known. Only missed Nielsen because I kept spelling it incorrectly.

Please add alternate spellings for Rachmaninoff/Rachmaninov. Maybe it's an American thing, but I've hardly ever seen Rachmaninov.

"Rachmaninoff" will work now. His name is actually spelt Рахманинов - and that final "в" is, in the English alphabet, a "V".

Umm, is anybody else surprised that John Philip Sousa is NOT on the list? I did marching band and concert band from 7th grade through college. You can't go through a major or minor patriotic holiday without hearing or playing his music. Granted, he's more military band than symphonic or orchestral, but when I traveled with a concert band overseas, people recognized his music and could sing it back to us.

Not that I knew everybody else on this list - I could only name 25! If I knew how to spell these names like Liszt and Haydn, I might have had 30 (:-D

That is annoying. I typed Williams, meaning Ralph Vaughn Williams, and when it was given as a correct answer I didn't even think that there was another composer with the surname Williams. I also should have Gershwin, and Dvorak as well. Oh well, 39/75 is fair enough since very rarely listen to classical.

Vaughan Williams is Ralph's surname, unhyphenated (it's a Welsh thing). The other guy is John Williams, the modern composer of stuff like the Harry Potter, Schindler's List and Star Wars themes.

Fantastic quiz. Except for Smith (John Stafford Smith -- composer of Anacreontic Song which is the tune for the Star-Spangled Banner) when the missing names came up, they all made sense. Thanks!

Surprised that Carl Orff didn't make the list, with how popular Carmina Burana is!

I get that, but since he's only known for one work out of the massive canon that this list entails, I'm not surprised he didn't make the cut. I AM surprised that Smetana isn't! What a dude.

In the interests of musical education, it would be interesting to see some of these composers' major works listed along with the answers. There are many names on this list that I have never heard of.

Since John Williams made the list - I'm surprised that Hans Zimmer did not!

Lol I'm not. Williams has far more creative ways of treating motifs and creating a score worth listening to in parts. Zimmer, while effective, is generally only good with the movie, in my opinion. I love Zimmer too but up against these guys, he's not particularly inventive the way they were
