The ruler tool on Google Earth seems to be telling me that there are points in Greenland and points in Luxembourg that are less than 1660 miles apart. This means that Luxembourg should push Belarus out of the rankings.

Why are Faroe Islands included? No one considers that a sovereign state.
+4
Level 76
Oct 11, 2014
On the contrary, many do! The Faroe Islands have a similar relationship of free association to Denmark to that which Marshall Islands, Palau and Federated States of Micronesia (which I think we all agree are countries) have with the United States. See here for more information.

No way. The Faroe Islands are not a sovereign state just because they are an autonomous county.

Country, not county!

I want to see Faroe as na independent nation.

Sorry, buddy. It's not a country at all!

And Denmark too! Why are they including Denmark? Denmark will be 0 Km. an 0. Mi. and even 0. Cm., because Greenland is a region of Denmark
+8
Level 76
May 15, 2016
It's not a region! It's a country. To be exact, it's a constituent country, alongside the countries of Denmark and Faroe Islands, in the Kingdom of Denmark. (Yes, there's a Kingdom of Denmark, and a Country of Denmark, and they are different entities)

Politically it may be part of the Kingdom of Denmark, but geographically it is far more than "0" miles/kms away.

OK, but it's best not to use the H-word if you don't want to insult the Dutch.

In the same vein why not accept England for the UK.......and see how well that goes over for the rest of the UK

Why are you accepting Holland for the name of the country of the Netherlands? - Would you accept New York or California as substitutes for the USA? - I think not!

In Denmark we call it Holland, not netherlands, when growing up i was told that netherlands is the english name for it and that Holland was the danish name. I am from Greenland

Great quiz! Still, the ruler tool on Google Earth points out that the distance between Greenland and Portugal (Corvo island, Azores) is 2385 Km.

Wow, why is there such a low guess rate for Portugal and Faroe Islands?
+3
Level 51
Mar 20, 2017
Probably because the Faroe islands aren't officially a country and Portugal would, on first glance, seem further away than Spain.

If the Baltic States qualify, how about Russia through Kaliningrad?
+2
Level 76
Jul 24, 2017
Russia's already here, with a much shorter distance than to the Baltic countries, because its nearest point to Greenland is much further north, near its border with Norway and Finland.
