Yeah, pya is one of those answers that's more to inform than seriously expect many to know. I still remember in 1986, when all you could get to visit Burma was a 7-day visa, being there when a woman at a market charged me "1 kyat 25 pyas" - salted peanuts I think it was. It was an insane time, they'd just demonetised (ie decreed to be valueless) the 25, 35 and 75 kyat notes, and replaced them with 15, 45 and 90-kyat notes. Apparently the rebels didn't put their money in bank accounts, so the generals figured the way to keep them short of cash was to do that crazy stuff (of course, after they'd traded in their own stash).
