The coin's official name is Nickel (which, by the way, is only 25% nickel, the rest is copper)

Both the US and Canada have a 5-cent coin called a nickel, both spelt with a small "n". I can't find anything to suggest that either coin has been "officially" called that; it just seems more like common usage. How much longer do you think they'll be around for? You can't buy anything with 5 cents these days!
