Oh sorry, didn't take into account you being Italian. I would definitely add Mecca onto the list, very influential. Perhaps Damascus for being the oldest city and Tokyo or a city from China because the east is terribly underrepresented. I know Venice had a great importance for Europe as well with Marco Polo and other trade, but I'd say most of Florence's influence was either inside Italy or arts. Mecca has definitely had more influence worldwide.

Hello sillie, I tried to make a top 10 of the most important cities in a occidental or western point of view. If I would have done a top 10 about the whole world, I would agree with you that the rest of the world should be more represented. Since this is as a western point of view, I tought Florence had it's place, since this is the original place where the Renaissance took off and brought back the humanist philosophy everywhere in Europe. But I can assure you choosing number 8-9-10 was difficult, since there are so many cities who played a major role in our history.

I'd change the title to "Top 10 Most Important Cities in Western History", because "history (Occidental)" doesn't have much force to it. "Western History" is the term in English most commonly understood to mean "the History of Europe, the Mediterranean area, and post-European-contact Americas", which is where these cities are located. Or you could add other cities from other areas, e.g.: Chang'an (Xi'an), Beijing, Agra, Susa, Edo (Tokyo), Timbuktu, Cuzco, Tenochtitlan, Teotihuacan, and such.

Hello jriddycuz, i actually wanted to represent the western history with this quiz, i agree occidental could be a bit too large as a theme depending on what is our perception of the occidental world today. Historians still debate the question. Hope you enjoyed the quiz!

I do like this list. As a Canadian, it automatically occurred to me that this was about western history before i started typing in answers. If you would like my opinion on this list, I would say its pretty evident you're Italian. I would have never imagined Florence placing higher than London, as London was the most important city from 1600 to arguably today as it is still a major economic hub and powerhouse. I get that Florence is the birthplace of the renaissance, but thats all it offers. The only 2 cities i didnt get were venice and florence, although it must be said after i typed in rome i assumed Italy was done. Glad you included Alexandria and Jerusalem, they are great additions to this list. Finally I would like to see you do a top 10 or even top 20 most important cities in WORLD history as it would include cities from china, japan and the middle east and other places.

Hello Xabi, thanks for your comment, I guess it's a mather of opinion, i agree with you about the importance of London, but i felt like putting Florence before London, since Florence started the Renaissance, then it spread to Italy, then to the rest of Europe. I thought London's power emerged in part because of the influence comming from Italy, like most of the European cities, so i tought i could put Florence just before London, but i agree that it could have been London before for some people. I guess the important thing is to find both of the cities in the quiz. I would love to make other quiz, but to be honest, I study the story of the Occidental world in general, so it would be hard to represent correctly the rest of the World, I leave the task to someone else. Thanks again for your comment and I may add other quiz about western history if you are interrest. Have a good day!
